Companion Animals: Health, Behavior, and Welfare (CAHBW) is an international, peer-reviewed, gold open-access journal dedicated to promoting research that enhances the quality of life of small companion animals.

The journal focuses on small companion species, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small mammals (rodents), with a particular focus on addressing the limited publication space for small mammal research.

CAHBW focuses on three main areas:

  • Health: disease, preventative healthcare, nutrition, physiology, and clinical research.
  • Behavior: normal and abnormal behavior, cognition, human–animal interactions, animal–computer interactions.
  • Welfare: welfare assessment, husbandry, ethics, and quality of life.

The journal welcomes interdisciplinary research, reviews, case studies, and short communications that contribute to evidence-based improvements in companion animals’ health, behavior, and welfare.
