Author Guidelines

All submitted manuscripts are initially screened by the editorial office to ensure they align with the journal’s scope, demonstrate originality, and comply with the manuscript preparation guidelines provided below:

Manuscript Types
Please ensure to insert the manuscript type that best represents your manuscript in the title page (e.g., Original Article, Review Article, Clinical Study, Case Study, etc.).

Original Articles
Original Articles report on original, primary studies that advance the field through empirical data. These manuscripts must provide sufficient detail for the study to be replicated. They are evaluated on the rigor of their methodology and the significance of their findings.

  • Structure: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Limitations, and Conclusion.
  • Word Count: 3,500–5,000 words (excluding references).
  • Tables/Figures: Up to 6 total.
  • References: 30–50.

Review Articles
Review Articles provide a critical, systematic, and comprehensive synthesis of the current literature on a specific topic. Rather than reporting new data, they identify emerging trends, highlight knowledge gaps, and suggest directions for future research. Authors should use thematic subheadings to organize the body of the text logically.

  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Thematic Subheadings (body), Discussion, and Future Perspectives.
  • Word Count: 5,000–8,000 words
  • Tables/Figures: 3–5 (often used to summarize existing studies)
  • References: 60–100

Clinical Studies
Clinical Studies involve prospective or retrospective research on patient populations or animal cohorts to evaluate interventions, diagnostic tools, or therapeutic outcomes. These reports must emphasize ethical compliance, study design (e.g., randomized controlled trials or cohort studies), and statistical power.

  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Study Design/Patients and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion.
  • Word Count: 3,000–4,500 words.
  • Tables/Figures: Up to 5 total.
  • References: 25–40.

Case Reports
Case Reports document a unique or rare clinical occurrence, such as an unusual presentation of a disease, a novel diagnostic finding, or an unexpected treatment outcome. The focus is on the "Case Presentation," detailing the subject’s history, clinical signs, and follow-up, followed by a discussion on why the case is significant to practitioners.

  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Case Presentation, Discussion, and Conclusion
  • Word Count: 1,200–2,000 words.
  • Tables/Figures: 1–3 total.
  • References: 10–15.

Case Studies
Case Studies differ from reports by focusing on an in-depth, longitudinal analysis of a specific entity, such as a training program, a specific sports organization, or a unique event. They often employ a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods to explore complex issues within a real-life context.

  • Structure: Abstract, Introduction, Context/Setting, Methodology (how the study was conducted), Observations/Results, and Lessons Learned.
  • Word Count: 2,500–4,000 words.
  • Tables/Figures: 2–4.
  • References: 20–30.

Title
The title should be concise and informative, and include important keywords.

Authors and Affiliations

  • The name(s) of the author(s).
  • The affiliations of all the authors, i.e., institution, department, city, postal code, and country.
  • A clear indication (*) to the corresponding author (Usually one author, and we accept a maximum of two corresponding authors).
  • Telephone number, fax number, and active e-mail address of the corresponding author.
  • Active email addresses for all the authors must be provided.

Graphical Abstract (Optional)
It is highly recommended to include a graphical abstract, which will be used only on social media platforms to promote the article.

Abstract
This should state the scope, purpose, and main findings of the manuscript in no more than 250 words. It should not contain references and undefined abbreviations.

Keywords
Six to eight words to be included as keywords. These will be used for indexing purposes, so they should well represent the content of the article.

Running Title
A short running title should be provided.

Styles

  • Authors are free to use any font type and size throughout their manuscripts, provided that consistency is maintained.
  • American English spelling should be used throughout the manuscript.
  • Sections, subsections, and sub-subsections should be numbered, clear, and well-structured.
  • Page numbers and line numbers should be included
  • Figures, schemes, equations, and tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals and cited in the manuscript.
  • Figures, schemes, and charts should be of high quality, not less than 300 dpi.
  • Figure captions should exist below the figures.
  • Figure parts should be denoted by lowercase letters (a, b, c, etc.).
  • Tables should be included in a table format, not as images
  • Table captions should exist above the tables
  • Data presented in the figures, schemes, and tables should not be repeated in the text.
  • Equations should be written using MS Word equation editor or any other editor, but cannot be in image format. They should be numbered sequentially.
  • Footnotes to tables can be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data) and included below the table.
  • Using international system units is necessary.

Supplementary Materials
Supplementary materials should be cited within the text of the paper. For example, authors should refer to the table as Supplementary Table 1 within the text. Then, add a section at the end of the manuscript including a brief description of the supplementary materials.

Acknowledgments
In this section, authors can acknowledge the contribution of colleagues who do not meet all criteria for authorship and/or any kind of support, such as providing materials, guidance, and facilities.

Declarations
All manuscripts must contain the following Declarations:

Authors' Contributions
We encourage authors to include the Authors' Contribution section, in which they should outline the contribution of each author to the paper.

The ICMJE recommends that authorship be based on the following 4 criteria:

  • Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
  • Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
  • Final approval of the version to be published; AND
  • Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Data Availability
Data availability statements should contain guidance on where research data supporting the findings of the study can be found.

Funding
All funding sources for the research should be included. If no funding has been received, authors can simply state that the research has not received any funding.

Conflicts of Interest
Authors should declare any financial or non-financial relations that may inappropriately influence the study. It can be a simple statement such as “the authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest.” Conflicts of interest exist when:

  • Having financial interest (study sponsors, funds, grants, or any financial support);
    Using a company’s resources, time, or equipment for personal gain;
  • Working for a competing business;
  • Using intellectual property (patents, copyrights, royalties);
  • Holding shares in a company that might be influenced by your paper.

Ethical Approval
An Ethical Approval section must be included, clearly stating that the study was approved by the appropriate national ethics committee. Additionally, authors should confirm that the research was conducted in accordance with the principles outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki.

Studies involving animals must include a statement confirming that the research was approved by an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) or equivalent ethics committee.

Consent
If any of the participant's data will be shared or revealed, authors must include the Consent section confirming that informed written consent has been obtained prior to submitting the manuscript. In addition, a copy of this consent must be submitted along with the manuscript files.

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process
Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini) do not meet the criteria for authorship. They cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors are solely responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their work, including any parts produced or edited by AI. Authors must ensure that AI-generated content is free from plagiarism, technical errors, and fake references.

Authors should use the following format for their declaration:
"During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL / SERVICE] (Version [NUMBER], [MANUFACTURER]) in order to [REASON: e.g., improve readability, translate text, or brainstorm structure]. Following the use of this tool, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the final version of the publication."

If this does not apply to your work, please state the following:
"The authors confirm that no Generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in the writing, editing, or preparation of this manuscript. The entire content was authored solely by the individuals listed."

References

  • DSIM follows the Vancouver citation style. In-text citations must be numbered consecutively in square brackets [1] and should not include author names in the narrative. For example, phrases like "George et al. (2010) found that..." are no longer accepted. Instead, rephrase as "It was found that... [1]."
  • The reference list at the end of the manuscript should be numbered in the order in which they appear in the text.
  • Every reference must be cited in the text, and every in-text citation must have a corresponding entry in the reference list.
  • All reference entries must be complete, and URLs or DOIs should be included when available.

Language
We welcome manuscripts written in English and kindly ask authors to use American English spelling and usage consistently throughout. The manuscript should be free of language errors, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation, to ensure clarity and professionalism. If you would like support with language editing, you are welcome to consider our professional English editing service, available at https://www.rasayely.com/english-editing-proofreading/.
