IJES Institutional & Society Partnership Program
Building a Stronger Global Community for Equine Science
The International Journal of Equine Science (IJES) invites academic departments, research institutes, veterinary hospitals, professional societies, and conference organizers to join our Institutional & Society Partnership Program.
We believe that high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based equine research should be accessible to scientists, clinicians, and practitioners worldwide. By partnering with active organizations across the equine sector, IJES aims to bridge the gap between academic research, clinical practice, and real-world equine welfare.
Current Official Partners
Equine International
Equine International is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research institute dedicated to advancing equine behavior, welfare, and equine–human interaction science, led by Executive Director Dr. Emily Kieson. Through this partnership, IJES collaborates with Equine International to bridge peer-reviewed research and practical application—supporting open-access publishing in equine psychology, equine agency, and evidence-based practice within equine-assisted services (EAS) and broader equestrian disciplines.
Horses Inside Out (HIO)
Horses Inside Out is an internationally recognized leading provider of equine education dedicated to incorporating a solid understanding of anatomy, biomechanics, and locomotion with recent scientific developments and practical equestrian management. Founded by Gillian Higgins in 2006, HIO brings together world-leading equestrian professionals, researchers, and practitioners to deliver evidence-based education through conferences, seminars, and academy resources. Through this partnership, IJES collaborates with Horses Inside Out to bridge anatomical and biomechanical research with practical field care and training, supporting open-access publishing through annual conference award waivers, runner-up discounts, and dedicated Special Collections aligned with core themes such as equine welfare, movement, and performance.
Benefits for Partner Organizations & Researchers
Our partnership model is designed to support your institution's research visibility while removing financial barriers to open-access publishing:
- 50% APC Member Discount: All faculty, clinical staff, fellows, and active members affiliated with partner organizations receive an automatic 50% discount on Article Processing Charges (APCs) for accepted manuscripts.
- Annual Research Award (100% APC Waiver): Partner institutions receive one full APC waiver annually to sponsor the publication of a standout paper, award-winning study, or top resident/student research project.
- Guest-Edited Special Collections: Organizations have the opportunity to curate dedicated Featured Collections or publish peer-reviewed conference proceedings in guest-edited Special Issues.
- Organizational Visibility: Partners receive prominent placement on the IJES portal as an Official Affiliated Partner, along with dedicated space in our news section and social media channels to announce events, calls for papers, and organizational updates.
How Partners Support the Mission (Expected Collaboration)
In return, IJES asks partner organizations to support our shared mission of advancing open-access equine science through the following non-financial commitments:
- Official Recognition: List IJES as an "Official Journal" or "Affiliated Journal" on your organization’s website.
- Community Awareness: Share partnership announcements, calls for papers, or special collection updates with your network via member newsletters, internal updates, or social media channels.
- Research Engagement: Encourage affiliated researchers, clinical staff, and members to consider IJES as a dedicated open-access venue for their high-quality, peer-reviewed work.
- Collaborative Leadership: Nominate qualified senior faculty or clinical experts to serve as Associate Editors, Guest Editors, and Peer Reviewers.
Core Program Terms & Eligibility
To make partnership as straightforward as possible, our framework operates under zero-friction, transparent principles:
- 100% Non-Exclusive: Partner organizations and their affiliated researchers retain total freedom and independence to publish their work in whichever journals they choose. There are no binding commitments or exclusivity requirements.
- Zero Financial Cost: Joining the IJES Partnership Program involves no membership fees, financial commitments, or liabilities for the organization.
- Primary Author Discount Rule: The 50% APC discount applies when either the Primary or Corresponding Author is a verified active member, researcher, or staff member of the partner organization at the time of submission.
- Independent Peer Review: All submissions undergo rigorous, independent peer review. Partnership status does not influence editorial decisions or peer-review outcomes.
